The highest level of play in the area is the SESA Under 23 Select Program. The u23 program is designed for our local players in college and the college bound high school players in the area. For many college players, returning home during the summer and winter is a struggle to maintain the level of play they had been training at with their college team, let alone actually make improvements. In 2017 the SESA ADOC started the u23 program so that the growing number of local college players would have a program to play with while home from college.
The program trains multiple times each week, and is coached by current college coach and former college players who know exactly what it takes to play at the college level. The program also plays weekly in the 11v11 league. There are separate men's and women's teams. The teams will also plan to attend the Iowa Adult Soccer State Cup Championship Series. The u23 is open to all high school players going into 9th grade, and all college age players and recent college players. Players will also receive a team training/game top, have access to college recruiting resources, a fitness program, and networking opportunities.
Summer program schedule: Starting June 7th, 3 training sessions a week; Monday and Wednesday 6-8pm and Friday morning TBD. Program ends August 8th. It is acceptable for players to miss some sessions due to travel, vacations, work, etc. and is expected during the summer months. Some absences do not prohibit participation in league games. Training will take place at the SESA training grounds at the Burlington RecPlex, which is also the site for the 11v11 Sunday league.
The Adult State Cup will be June 26-27th at an additional cost, roster will be restricted to first team players only (if enough interest may take multiple teams).
Additional exhibition games against area semi-pro teams will be added, dates TBA.
The SESA u23 program has facilitated the playing career of more than 30 players at all divisions and levels of play since it's inception. We are pursuing additional opportunities to provide high level training and play by participating in semi-professional leagues in the near future, continued success and participation is the key to making those goals possible.
